Rule 354

Calculation to determine place numbers

1. After the end of each part of the competition, the place number of each competitor must be determined on the basis of all competitors participating in such part.

2. For each competitor a direct comparison with all other competirors on a one to one basis will be made. This comparison is done Judge by Judge comparing the total points awarded. The higher total points counts as a Judge in favor and two (2) Points in Favor.

a) If two or more competitors receive from one Judge equal total points in the short program, the competitor with the highest mark for the required elements receives a Judge in Favor and two (2) Points in Favor. If the marks for the required elements are also equal, both competitors receive one (1) Point in Favor.

b) If two or more competitors receive from one Judge equal total points in the interpretive free skating program, the competitor with the highest mark for presentation receives a Judge in Favor and two (2) Points in Favor. If the marks for presentation are also equal, both competitors receive one (1) Point in Favor.

c) If two or more competitors receive from one Judge equal total points in free skating, the competitor with the highest mark for presentation receives a Judge in Favor and two (2) Points in Favor. If the marks for presentation are also equal, both competitors receive one (1) Point in Favor.

4. The number of Points in Favor is added up over all Judges for both the competitor and the compared competitor separately.

5. The competitor with the highest number of Points in Favor in this comparison receives a Win and two (2) comparative points. If this number is equal for the two (2) competitors, they both receive one (1) comparative point.

6. The number of comparative points and Points in Favor are totalled for each competitor over all comparisons concerned.

Rule 355

Determination of results of each part of a Competition

1. The competitor who has the highest number of comparative points is placed first. The next highest is placed second, etc.

2. If two or more competitors have obtained the same number of comparative points, the first placed is the competitor who has the greater total number of Points in Favor.

3. If the foregoing rules fail to determine the award of any place, then the competitors tied for that place must be annonced as tied. If two competitors so tie for first place, the next place to be awarded is third place (not second). If two skaters so tie for second place, the next place to be awarded is fourth place (not third), an so on.
